One of my Kind

Lol, lyrics from an INXS song. I went shark diving yesterday. This has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and the chance finally came. It was with Haleiwa Shark Tours, in Hale’iwe on the north shore. I got to go in a cage to and see them up close. But they ask you to try not touching the sharks, just watch. The species here that you mainly see are Galapagos Sharks, and they have no interest in eating humans so there is no reason to fear them. In fact most sharks are scared of us. And if you ever want to touch a shark, I’ve done that before at a petting pool with Port Jacksons, it’s like sandpaper.

It was very cool to see them out in the wild, and hope to do again someday. I also understand there was a whale nearby too. I didn’t see it but some other people in the boat did. Anyways, this still is from video I got trying to record the encounter. The pouch my phone was in liked to float so I had to hold it down. I’ll have more photos on the boat from the SLR up after I’m back home early next week.
