RIP Rosie the Baboon

At Moorpark College they have a teaching zoo, where students learn to train and care for wild or exotic animals. I had recently learned about what had happened to her, thought I am unable to find any kind of news story, I was able to find this.

It is with great sadness that we inform our loyal community of friends and alumni that our dear “Rosie”, the olive baboon, passed away on Tuesday, January 20th. Leaving us at the age of 35, “Rosie” was surrounded by her “team”, EATM staff and students.

Joining the ranks of “Chad”, the lion, and “Schmoo”, the California sea lion, we can now truly call “Rosie” an EATM Legend. “Rosie” helped educate thousands of California school children, taught close to 100 EATM students how to become the trainers they are today, and appeared on countless news programs to promote America’s Teaching Zoo and Moorpark College. From a college perspective, “Rosie” earned her tenure years ago and was a huge part of the Moorpark College Family and the entire community. She will be missed by her huge “troop” at EATM and Moorpark College.

Testing Shots

While playing with the picture setting on my camera I found something I like. Something about me is that despite the darkness within, I see the world as bright and colorful, and I wish to show that to the world in my photos. So I have the setting on photo style to reflect that as much as I can with my camera to have high sharpness, contrast, saturation, and color tone.

After some playing around these three I found myself liking most with the sharpness, contrast and color tone to the max, but the saturation is at the low, middle, and high end on each photo because I felt the very high looked like a bit much. I guess more experimentation needs to be done.

First photo

On my new 70D, it looks nice. Afterwards I played with some of the setting to get the style and look I’m after on my photos. And the best part of this photo is that this is the box my camera and everything else came in.

Recording the Action

Last night I was in at grand park in downtown LA for the New Years Eve event happening. On the city hall building they had some interesting motion light display happening on the center tower. It was like watching video on a building and was very cool how they pulled it off. I guess LA now has its place to be for a new years event, finally. Here is some video another person recorded from that night. I have to say, seeing that for myself was very cool.

What I got…

Well, the cat I already had, but it’s the box that she is playing with that shows. I got a new pair of headphone with Boba Fett related design on them. They are really loud, and that’s nice because it kind of sucks that sometimes I can still hear other people around me when I’m on the subway or whatever. Don’t want that.

You got me right?

Friday I was at a party, taking place at a store in Studio City. Anniversary party. I was asked to take some photos and after it was over to send a copy first before they came online. I didn’t get many but here is one of them. They had some really nice lights set up in the store.

Becoming a Monster

I mean really, this cat is getting big. He is the size of the dogs and solid muscle. The best part is he is sweet but seems to like the dogs most. In fact he likes the dogs so much they try to get away from him sometimes. But there are other moments they chase him around and play.
