Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

Last week after DragCon, news broke about how the LA chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were going to get a community award from the Dodgers, only for their invitation to be taken back. The reason was because of some people and groups claiming they are controversial. One group, the Catholic League is headed by a very controversial person himself, Bill Donohue.

I’ve known about the sisters for years, and the first time I saw them was during an AIDS Walk. Then a few years later I saw some more at LA Pride and eventually found myself getting to know some of them, Sister Unity most. It’s a group of people who raise money for all kinds of charity groups. And yes they dress up like nuns but that doesn’t make it an attack on catholicism. I think the church has bigger things to worry about then people dressing up.

Now there is a talking point being spread by bots. And I’m pretty sure this story is the first time many people have even heard of the sisters too. I stand with the sisters.
