LA Black Tie Beach ’13 Photos

Alright, here we go. It was a rather overcast and cool day at the beach, not really expected for mid august and I also got to the location about an hour after the whole thing started. We had a nice group of people come, just over a dozen and everyone played in the water, frisbee, played int he sand or did something else funny while there. Like always people would walk up to us and ask “whats going on?” and I just told it’s just a day at the beach for us like any other.

Or it was laundry day and that was all we had to wear for the day.

Anime Expo ’13 – Photos

So I got to the Convention Center on the first day of Anime Expo and as I’m about to enter I see people just inside checking bags and was also led to believe I also need a badge to enter the entire building (which was completely new for AX) and was bugged by that. So I waited in a very long line with the sun beating on me to get a pass only to learn I actually didn’t need one just to walk around the place, you just need one to enter certain areas and the people at the doors are just there to check bags. That made me feel better so I did just what I wanted to do, wander the place and take photos.

Something else fun is after 4:30 you can enter the exhibit hall free, but have to get a pass for that to. But it’s still free to pick up after 4:30.

But what a confusing start of a day

Day of Decision ’13

So the US Supreme Court made a ruling yesterday morning on Prop 8 here in california and DOMA and both got taken down. And now the LGBT folks can get married. So in different cities in california, and I’m sure in some other states had victory rallies and so I was at the one in West Hollywood. Honestly I was expecting more of a party, mainly some speeches going on and after that was over with everyone either went home or walked up to some of the restaurants, bars, or clubs near by on Santa Monica blvd and just partied away there. And in other news some people got really butthurt on the fact DOMA was killed.

But you know the crazies will keep fighting, and I say, make fun of them.

CicLAVia 6.23.13

Took me longer to post then I thought. So the day started off getting there later then I had originally planned but I made it anyways so all good, and Like the last CicLAvia in april I skated 22 miles. I started off on where Wilshire started in Downtown along Grand and rode to the other end near the Tar Pits where I hung out with another friend who spotted me and hung out for a while. After a while he mentioned that he was hungry and I went with him to find some food and we ended up riding over to San Vicente and just turned back to find something for him along the main route for the event. Ended up finding a Johnny Rockets and left him there because I wanted to get more photos in which I didn’t have much at the time.

Then I started riding back to where I had started and at one point near MacArthur Park I heard some guy playing some instrument, turned around and said he was also playing it while riding his bike. Start skating backwards and taking photos of him and hit another persons bike and fell. Yeah, me of all people, falling, that doesn’t make sense but it happened. I was fine to no surprise because I know how to safely fall with minimal injury. As I finished up my journey back to Downtown I started to notice my wrist was hurting. Don’t think I hit it on anything but was harsh. After hanging around downtown for a while I then headed back to the Fairfax end of the route and made it before the streets opened up again. Stayed for another while longer and let my feet relax because my blades have never been kind to my feet. I need a new pair but an upgrade to what I have would cost at least $250 US but not sure if I should get a new pair of Hockey Blades like I have now or Speed Skates.

Last I went take the bus back to the Red Line and the Metro App on my iPad wasn’t telling me the times on when it would be there so I skated up the street some and saw a bus coming, jumped on and made it back home. Now other stuff that happened, Like always there where venders selling stuff but I noticed a lack people people handing stuff out as a promotion, but there were churches in Koreatown handing out water bottles. I like Korean Christians, I really do, they are often so pleasant. Over all, I didn’t get as many photos as I would of liked but they came out nicely anyways. Oh, and there was a car that accidentally got on the route, but had help getting out at least.

Can’t wait for the next on in October.

E3 Expo ’13 Photos

Ok, here is the story. For a while I’ve always said, “one year I’m going to E3.” and being to lazy I didn’t do anything I didn’t and last year I said I will goto the next one. Once again, knowing it was coming up I found myself to lazy to do anything. Then after seeing some of the stuff going on during day 0 and 1, I decided to head down and see if I could check it out. Mainly because I knew some friends of mine would be there and figured I could also hang with them at least, I had nothing going on. So I got there, took some photos outside and went in some to check on a few things but weren’t in that long because some people were roaming around asking for passes. So some took of, others stayed to see what they could do, I did something different. I was sitting outside and I wrote on my iPad “my I have your pass?” and maybe around 5 minutes later a guy come up to me and said “come here real quick, I have an extra I can give you.” Victory. Once inside again I entered the south exhibit hall of the convention center and roamed around for about and hour and a half or 2, played a little bit of Diablo 3 on the console, then when to the western hall and walked the area shortly to get an idea of whats there. Soon after I went back to my place but I think I took off a little to early.

So since my pass was going to still be good for the next day I headed back down the next morning because once again, nothing going on. Went in and like the day before played some games but this time did some more. Found a friend of mine working the booth for Snail USA promoting the game Black Gold Online. Gave me a shirt, mouse pad (which I really needed) and a fan. Neat. saw some of the stuff for the massive Nintendo booth which I would of liked to play stuff on but there was always a line and set ups to have your photo taken. Found an area with some old arcade games and played a bit of Mortal Kombat 2. It’s been so long. Outside the convention center was the Namco booth with a bunch of Pacman games which another friend of mine was working so when some of my other friends gone back to the area I went out just before and we all spent time together. Spent time outside being strange and such then we all went in to behave even more strangely, because we can.

What was also nice was much of the convention center had free wifi throughout the place with the help of the nice people at Square Enix to promote the game Final Fantasy XIV which I very likely won’t play anyways but figured would be nice to mention. Spent some of that time online posting a few things on my personal facebook page. you know maybe I should of done that to with my Steel Shark page and the Twitter page. Hope I remember next time. The whole event really wasn’t as exciting as I had expected, I was hoping to see more cosplayers and take more photos but not a lot of opportunity come.

But over all I’m glad I finally got to crash E3

LA Pride ’13 Photos

That was a good day, it was really was. Here is how the day went. I went over with a friend of mine and took the bus and dropped off near where the parade was going to end. and then started heading up to the start while also taking some other photos along the way. Found the protesters, trolled them shortly and then started heading to the beginning of the parade route again. I was walking with the NOH8 Campaign group, or in my case, they were walking while I was on my blades. It actually took quite awhile for our group to start moving but it was nice when it finally did. As we went a long the route I found more people with interesting shirts and other costumes I took more photos of.

After the parade was over people would either go into the festival or just hang around Santa Monica Blvd and just party along there. Met some people promoting Bent Con, letting me know some nerds are gay, which is true because I know many gay nerds. Got a free coupon for a burrito at Chipotle, and one of the girls with the group gave me an orange cowboy hat. Ran into some of the Angel City Derby Girls again like I did back during the last CicLAvia like 2 months ago, and they got a game coming up this weekend. Later I found myself dancing for some of the people at Eddie’s Barber Shop, and by dancing I mean head banging and thrashing around because I don’t dance. They thought I was awesome anyways. Walked around more, talked to other people and took more photos, and took part of all kinds of wackiness.

I also met Christina Milian during the parade. She also joined in with the NOH8 group and didn’t even recognize her. And to think I spend a good part of my afternoon talking to her not realizing who she really was.

It just upsets me that it has to end.

Post Prop 8 Outrage

Photos that I thought I posted on here but turns out I didn’t. This was after the election in ’08 when Prop 8 here in california passed, and that upset a lot of people. Two days after the election there was a massive rally going on in the west LA area going around Westwood, Beverly Hills, and ending up in West Hollywood. A friend of mine wanted to go but she wasn’t sure if she wanted to call sick in work or join up. I let her know if decided to go let me know and I’ll join. She called soon after, met up and rode over. Found a place to park and soon after we found the group coming up to us and walked with them. It was a nice long walk, not entirely sure where we went but I know we did go to this big ass mormon temple I believe was in Westwood because we know the Mormon Church involoved themselves in the push for prop 8 which would explain many of the signs seen.

I just hope this entire mess ends soon.

Slam up to Violence – May ’13

my photos from the poetry slam saturday after the gettypede. Note, these photos where not from my camera but another persons that was there and let me use it. It was in the Sony Alpha series which I have little idea on how to get to some of the controls I wanted to, but at least I got the option to use 3200 ISO, which I didn’t much because I didn’t want mad grain on the photos. just wish the batteries didn’t die earlier that day still Anywho, here you go, I often forget how difficult it is to get good photos of people speaking or playing music on stage.

but that doesn’t mean to give up on that.
