LA Zombie Walk ’12

Not much to describe on what happened during the event. Went to the North Hollywood station, got there at about 3:30 where some people have already gathered and doing the finishing touches with blood and make-up. So during the time being the forces continued to gather around the station and at 4:50 we all went underground to take the subway to Hollywood and Highland. After dropping off we all went up stairs and started walking towards Vine, then we just walked back over to Highland. Thats it really. Oh, and we scared a bunch of people and give them some good laughs.

So many zombies, and me without my swords.

Endeavor

So I finally got to see it for myself. It was almost unreal, amazing. So here is how it went down. Before I left my place I questioned to myself “should I bring my rollerblades? they are a bit heavy when being carried around when off and not sure I would need them much. And the bus should drop me close enough anyways so I should be good.” What the plan was I had in mind was get to this mall by Crenshaw and MLK Blvd before 2 because thats when Endeavor would be there by and sit for a half hour before taking off again. I got there before 1:30 so I figured it would make some sense to walk down the street some to see on the way and there would also be fewer people blocking my view.

I walked down Crenshaw for over 3 miles to get to a point just a block or two from Florence because one part of the side walk was so full of people I couldn’t get any further, but I did see it coming in form the distance… VERY, SLOWLY! So slowly it was in fact maybe over 2 hours behind schedule and will be very late. So I found myself a nice little spot, and waited as it come by. That was the coolest thing. After that, in order to head back home I had to walk through some neighborhood so I can get ahead of the shuttle again and not have to go through so much of a crowd back to the expo line station.

Yeah, it was better to leave the rollerblades behind.

CicLAvia 10.7.12 Photos

So, that was a lot of fun, went down on my blades, took a bunch of photos, talked to people, and got free stuff. For example I got a button and a bag for We Want Streetcar which is a campaign could be the return of street cars here, or at least in Downtown. The guys I saw during the stair claim at the bank tower with the Amazon Coconut Water were there. One of them saw me and remembered my name along with the fact I posted on here that I gave a buddy of mine the bottle that was given to me before, so I didn’t have a chance to try it. So he gave me two of them and I downed one of them right there. I thought it was good. The other one is also now gone. Also got a flyer from a Derby Doll for a coming match, Fight Crew and Varsity Brawlers. I was at a game awhile back, it was a little strange but interesting and I really liked the environment. And I loved the names they have for the teams and the players. Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing another game, but I much prefer if it was cheaper and if it would be cool if they would let me bring my camera in because I would get some good shots.

But yes, I had a very long ride I did hitting up all the hubs. here is what it looked like.

Eighteen point six miles… I did well. Didn’t like that it was a little warmer then I expected but I made due.

But next time, I’m wearing shorts.

CicLAvia 10.7.12

Something that caught my attention coming up. In downtown, Sunday some streets will be closed for people to roam around in the streets either by bike, skates, foot, whatever, who cares, just enjoy yourself. From the Facebook page.

We’ll see you October 7th! www.ciclavia.org

Mission
To encourage safe, vibrant public spaces, sustainable
transportation, and public health through a program of car-free street events.

Company Overview
Inspired by the original ciclovía in Bogotá Colombia, CicLAvia addresses five important issues in Los Angeles today: public space, public health, community and economic development, and promoting walking and biking.

Description
CicLAvia is a free and recurring event that allows for the temporary closing of interconnected routes throughout the region, creating a web of public space in which Angelenos can walk, bike, exercise, socialize, celebrate, and explore new cultures and neighborhoods. Similar events occur in many other cities around the US like Portland, New York and San Francisco. The Bogóta ciclovía also has inspired programs in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Quito and Melbourne.

Be there.

Occupy LA 9.30.12

So I was in downtown today and came to discover near city hall what was called the, Really Really Free Market in which some people came by to drop some stuff off like food or clothing they didn’t want anymore for anyone else that came by that might want it there. I just took some water and little snack things. People also made shirts and shared stories and ideas with each other, nice little shindig going on.

I’m glad I went by.

Stair Climb for Los Angeles ’12

I was in Downtown today to check on something in the area, and as I was walking by the bank tower I noticed a lot of people in front so I asked what was up. Pretty much it’s a fundraiser event for the YMCA nearby in what you do if you take part of the event is race up the building. There were also tents set up giving out drinks and promoting this new show on NBC Chicago Fire.

But yeah, the stuff I was given, like this drink called Mamma Chia, it was like a more liquified jello with chia seeds inside, and the guy at the tent kept giving me more. I thought it was good. Clearly Kombucha, which is some kind of fermented tea, I haven’t tried it yet but I’m sure it’s fine. This Amazon Coconut Water which I give to a buddy of mine on my way back to my place because he had a long day and he likes the stuff. Sad I don’t get to try it. And last something called CasCal, a fermented, natural soda… I tend not to drink sodas but lets see how this bad boy is anyways.

Wow, I’m doing a lot of promotion here. Maybe you guys can do something cool for me?
