Warcraft – Orc Tech Tree
Welcome to part two of a possibly long series of mine; If World of Warcraft was playable as a strategy game in the style of Warcraft 3, and each playable race in WoW had their own tech trees, this is how I imagine new units to look like, using model files from WoW and putting them together with the WoW Model Viewer. Today I am presenting what I believe could work as an Orc tech tree.
Human | Dwarf | Gnome | Draenei | Worgen | Orc | Tauren | Troll | Forsaken | Blood Elf | Goblin |
Kul Tiran | Dark Iron | Mechagnome | Alliance Sub | Zandalari | Nightborne | Mag’har | Horde Sub |
Scourge | Legion | Naga | Old Gods | Twilight | Mawsworn | Pandaren | Tuskarr | Dracthyr | Broken | Vrykul |
Now in Warcraft 3 there is the Horde, which started off as the orcs in the first game. But since the second game it was expanded quite a bit with other races, but here it’s just going to be orc. Already in game they have the tier one unit, the Grunt, but no ranged, so the idea I have in mind is an archer I’m calling for now, Skirmisher. I could have went with a Spearman like in the first game, but a lot has changed with the orcs since then.
As for a tier three, I can’t think of anything, since the Tauren is being moved to its own tree. There is the Raider which I would consider a tier two unit, giving a nice little edge in battle but not enough to take on other tier threes, even with a Kodo Beast which helps increase attack power. So I have in mind the Skirmisher would be able to summon a creature to fight along side it, and an in game spell like that already exists which I would make the Spirit Pig. Perhaps that would help balance things out.
The one orc caster is the Shaman, so they will need more. The second will be the Warlock, which based on in game lore they aren’t really trusted much because of events involving the first game. But that doesn’t mean they are still are loyal to the demons from before. They want to make up for the mistakes of the past. Luckily there already are in game models and such in Warcraft 3 so I don’t have to do anything new. And last in the Sage. Since there are no healer units, this will be it with one spell called Healing Wave, and another that can bring back a fallen friendly unit.
The orcs already have in game siege and flying units so all good there, And last, new hero units. In game there are already 2, the Far Seer and Blademaster. So what I’ll be adding is a the Beastmaster, much like the neutral hero unit that already exists, but instead of being half orc/ogre, this would will be an orc. And last, the Assassin, based on Garona, and have abilities based on what turns out would have been planned for a remake and retelling of the first game, by Blizzard, to be playable in Warcraft 3 Reforged.
Anyways, that’s it for today.
