Warcraft – Dragonkin Tech Tree

Welcome back to a new post for my on going fan series, Warcraft 3: What’s up with Shark and this really weird thing he’s doing about a game series he is clearly insane about and wants to play all the time in another method from what is currently in the works and still really big. Basically the idea is if the story of World of Warcraft kept going as Warcraft 3 expansions what could it be like, based on some concepts I have in mind on what new units could look like. Using the WoWHead Dressing Room to bring them to life.

Human | Dwarf | Gnome | Draenei | WorgenOrc | Tauren | Troll | Forsaken | Blood Elf | Goblin
Kul Tiran | Dark Iron | Mechagnome | Alliance SubZandalari | Nightborne | Mag’har | Horde Sub
Legion | Fel Orc | Sargerei | ScarletTuskarr | Pandaren | Earthen | Haranir
Void | Naga | Old Gods | TwilightScourge | Vrykul | Mawsworn
Dragonkin | Dracthyr | PrimalistsArgent | Pirates | Broken
Artisan
Zealot

Today I’m doing Dragonkin. The idea behind this tree has to do with the Dragonflights which is part of the in game lore. This includes Dragons and their different forms, dragonspawn, drakonids, and mortal beings who have sworn allegiance to the any of the Dragonflights. This could work out if all the flights were working together, or for individual flights on their own trees, wether or not it would be part of one of the main flights with an Aspect leading them like the Black, Blue, Bronze, Green or Red, or an off-shot flight like the Chromatic, Infinite or Nether.

Operative
Poacher

I’m going to start things off with the worker unit, the Artisan. Just a simple worker unit, nothing all that special about it, as least not that I have in mind. I simply thought it would be a Dwarf. I also wanted to mention that I wanted members of mortal races to be part of this tree and to be placed where I believed was most fitting. I’m also using armor set from WoW, mostly from the Dragonflight expansion because I believe it’s the most appropriate, and it looks really good.

Drakonid
Arcanist

Next up are the combat units. The first is the tier 1, Zealot, and I have in mind it will work a lot like the Footman on the Human tree already in game. Next up is the Operative, also a tier 1, inspired by Wrathion‘s Blacktalon agents. I have in mind they would be stealth until they attack. Next is the Poacher, which is a name I’ve always had in mind before based on the Wyrmcult Poacher but couldn’t think of any other, so it’s sticking for now. They would also have a Dragonspawn Meddler much like what’s in the Primalist tree that I made before, based on the creep already seen in Warcraft 3, but with some stat changes. And last the tier 3, also like in the Primalist tree they will have a Drakonid. It only makes sense.

Priest
Mage

On to the casters, and this one is going to be interesting, The reason is because each flight can only use 2 of the 5 here. They would have their own names in respect to their flights, will use the same model concept I have in mind, but with some possible color changes, I don’t know. The Arcanist would be a part of the Red and Blue. The Priest would be a part of the Black and Bronze. The Mage would be with the Blue and Black. The Druid would be among the Bronze and Green. The Lifebringer would be joining the Green and Red. And finally there will be another Dragonspawn, the Sorcerer, based on the creep in Warcraft 3 but with some stat changes.

Druid
Lifebringer

As for the siege unit, it’s likely going to be a Ballista, but the visuals will have more of a dragon feel. The flying units is real easy here, the different types of dragons that are already in game, from the Whelp, Drake, and Dragon. And they would be trained at the Dragon Roost buildings already in game.

And finally, the hero units. Starting with the Dragon Mage, a caster hero, and the Dragon Warrior, and direct combat unit. Now I know, doesn’t sound that interesting but I have something in mind for one or maybe both of them for their ultimate ability, that they can turn into a powerful Dragon. The Drakonid General which will be another combat hero unit and is simply a more powerful version of the regular Drakonid. And last the Dragonspawn Commander, which will be a caster hero. There might be some slight change int he shoulder and head armor, I don’t know, I don’t know how to edit the model files in WoW, let along have the ability to work with them.
