Warcraft – Broken Tech Tree
Been a little while, but it’s time for another episode on my little fan series Warcraft 3: World of Warcraft the strategy game; where I reimagine the possibility if WoW was made into a strategy game in the style of Warcraft 3 where the playable races, and some other factions were to have their own tech trees. With the help of model file in WoW to help create my concepts, making use the Dressing Room feature from WoWHead.
Human | Dwarf | Gnome | Draenei | Worgen | Orc | Tauren | Troll | Forsaken | Blood Elf | Goblin |
Kul Tiran | Dark Iron | Mechagnome | Alliance Sub | Zandalari | Nightborne | Mag’har | Horde Sub |
Naga | Old Gods | Twilight | Void | Primalists | Pandaren | Tuskarr | Dracthyr | Broken | Earthen |
Legion | Fel Orc | Sargerei | Scarlet | Scourge | Vrykul | Mawsworn |
Today I decided to go back a bit to a race that could be customized with the dressing room feature, the Broken, first seen in the Burning Crusade expansion. Now before I get started, I know I mentioned before when Warcraft 3: Reforged was announced I remember them saying there would be a bunch of new features that would make the game more playable even for those who were into the single player games. Even making it so they can create new DLC campaigns to buy after the game was launched. I always hoped they would make campaigns based on in game lore. Battles we never got the chance to see, but now we can take part of. This would led to creating new tilesets, art, creeps, mercenaries, items, and heroes units. And could allow skin changes for some units you can play as for online matches. It’s already possible to play with new skins with some hero units, but I really wish they could have went further with that.
But anyway, here are the Broken. A group of Draenei who were mutated by energies that tore their world apart. While some still hung out with their unaffected counterparts, others ended up leaving and forming their own societies. Then there are the Lost Ones who became further devolved and in some cases lost their entire identity. The model files from this are very old so certain modern features when it comes to the armor pieces will not display properly so I used sets from that far back in the games history. There s also no female version of the Broken, ever though there is art reflecting that they do exist. Starting off with the worker unit, just going as the Worker, for now.
Next up are the combat units. Staring with the tier 1, the Raider. It will be a rough equivalent of a Grunt on the Orc tree already in Warcraft 3. Next is the Ambusher, which will also be a tier 1, but not as powerful. The difference with this Ambusher is that will be cloaked unless in battle. It will be a lot like the Rouge class in WoW. Then there is the ranged unit, the Sharpshooter, This would likely be female. And last is the Invader, which will act like the Kodo Beast and will be mounted on a large creature like it.
The next group are the casters, and there are quite a few. I’m basing these off of what WoW classes they would be playable as if the Broken were a playable race in the game. They are also at least slightly based on NPCs and mobs seen in WoW. Starting things off with the Oracle, it will be the Broken version of the Shaman. Pretty sure this will be a female too. Next up is the temporally named, Priest. it will play like the version on the Human tree. Then there is the Spell Weaver, which will be their version of the Mage. And last, the temp named Warlock, only because some Broken end up becoming Warlocks in game.
Next are the Siege, which there is which I’ll just reuse the Demolisher already in game. I was never able to figure out a flying unit for the Broken, so for now they don’t have one.
And finally, the hero units. Starting off with the Elder Sage, which will be reusing the Akama model already in game. Next is the Demon Stalker, named after the armor set it is wearing. The name might change, but I also like it. Then is the Archmage, temp name. And last the Shield Basher. Not sure where I got that name form, but sure it was form a mod in game. Now yes, I know all these units look a lot alike, because I was lazy on this and figure if this was all made, it would be easier to make more individual customizations.
