Warcraft – Pirate Tech Tree

I know it’s been awhile, but we are back with another post for my on going fan series of What if, the story of World of Warcraft kept going as expansions of Warcraft 3, every playable race and other various factions in WoW had their own tech trees. With visual concepts made using in game art from World of Warcraft with the help of Wowhead’s dressing room.

Looter
Cutthroat

Today we have the Pirates, and the reason why I decided upon them was because I think they would make an interesting faction to play as, and would make use good use of boats. Possibly to the point that some boats could also act as buildings to some degree. Now there are a lot of different Pirate organizations in game so some things could be slightly different, depending on the crews and leaders of them. But this is a simple set up for the idea that it would be used for some kind of online matches if that was possible. Plus the number of mobs in WoW for each organization made it much easier to figure out names for each unit.

Marauder
Corsair

Starting this off with the worker, the Looter, I always had in mind that they would be.played as Goblins. Not sure why but to me it just made the most sense. They would act like any other worker unit in game and possibly be able to build boats too. If not they would just construct the building that can make boats, like what was seen in Warcraft 2. Which to me is a feature I slightly miss, just not the part about collecting oil as a resource.

Sharpshooter
Enforcer

Next up is the combat units, with three different type of tier 1 units. The first is the Cutthroat, a dual welding unit that would act like a rouge in WoW. Moves in stealth and breaks out when attacking. Next is the Marauder which is also direct combat but with more armor that the other tier ones for the tree. Then is the Corsair which will be roughly as powerful as the others but with greater attack power. Next up is the ranged unit, the Sharpshooter, which will basically be a reskinned Dwarf Rifleman from the Human tree. Last of the combat units is the Enforcer, which I had in mind to be a Tauren because of how big and powerful they are in Warcraft 3 so I felt like it would be the prefect fit.

Scoundrel
Mercenary

The next set are the casters, with a bunch of them joining the frey. Unfortunately I don’t have much idea of what each of they would be capable of or what role they would play but let’s wing it here. The first is the Scoundrel, and because I made it a Night Elf I figured it would have some druidic abilities. The next is the Mercenary, and because I made it a Goblin it could act more in a damage dealer or crowd control. Then there is the Pillager, a Gnome, and could also be a damage dealer or crowd control caster. What ever one gets, the other role will goto the other unit. Last is the Smuggler, which uses the Blood Elf model and would more likely act as a healer. Now any of that could change but that’s what I’ve settled on for the time being.

Pillager
Smuggler

The siege unit I have in mind for the Pirates seems a bit simple but based on the theme I think it mades sense. They would use a cannon that just rolls around. I mean, it is part of the in game lore. As for a flying unit that is difficult to figure out because I don’t want to just have a reused flying uint from something already in Warcraft 3. Now there are Parrots, including giant ones that are used as mounts in WoW, so perhaps do some version of that.

And finally is the hero units. The first is the Plunderlord, with the name inspired by the in game WoW event, Plunderstorm. It also takes some inspiration from Daelin Proudmoore, in Warcraft 3. And the outfit he is wearing coming from that same in game event. Next is the Musketeer, a heavily armored hero unit. After that is the Trickshot, a ranged hero. And last will be the Stormcaller, a caster hero. I have in mind it would have spells related to the elements, like a Shaman.
